dotART, the cultural association behind Trieste Photo Days festival and other photography-related initiatives, launches through the platform Exhibit Around a new open call for photographers: Trieste in Black & White.
We are looking exclusively for black and white photographs and/or portfolios/projects of Trieste in order to stage a big collective exhibition in 6 different select venues around the city center. Though having a preference for street photography, we are interested in every picture looking at Trieste in ways that are unique and unexpected.
If you are willing to participate you can submit your work from 1st to 5th May 2019.
Our staff will select the best photos and projects, whose authors will be asked to help contribute to the expenses to participate in the project. This will cover the logistics, organization, printing, visual communication, transport, staging and photo reportage, all managed by Exhibit Around. Once the exhibition has ended, the photographers can get the prints of their own photos directly in the venues.
The Call is open April 1 until May 5, 2019. To submit the photos you must fill the Upload form, selecting the Trieste in Bianco & Nero (Trieste in Black & White) project. The registration is free.
» Diffused exhibition
The best photos will be displayed in a big collective exhibition from June 1 to September 30, 2019 in the following venues around the city centre:
- Puro – Via Torino 31
- Gran Bar Unità – Piazza Unità d’Italia 3
- Hops Beerstrò – Via di Cavana 11-15
- Bar Buffet Borsa – Via della Cassa di Risparmio 4
- James Joyce Café – Via Roma 14
- White Cafè – Via Genova 21/A
We will open the exhibitions by making a tour of the venues with the authors and the public. The exhibition will be promoted by dotART and Exhibit Around network (newsletter with over 30,000 subscriptions, 6,000 likes on Facebook, website ecc.).
The photographers will have their own photo prints after the end of the exhibition. They can get them directly in the previously mentioned venues.
A selection of photos and/or projects will go in the Trieste Photo Days 2019 catalogue.
The best photos will become part of a photographic volume of about 60 pages that will be distributed at the venues during the exhibition. Each participating photographer will receive 1 free copy of the book.
Our staff will award the 3 best authors of the project with a selection of free copies of its photo books (total value 300 €).
Some of the venues will also offer the winners cocktails, dinner or breakfast as a prize (total value € 200).
» Selection and Fees
The selected authors will be contacted by the Exhibit Around staff by mid-April 2019 and will be asked to help contribute to the expenses for all the above points and to become part of the project and of the Exhibit Around network. For the projects (that contain from 6 to 20 photos), we set a special lower price that will include a free information panel about the author and the project. The money will help cover the logistics, organization, printing, visual communication, book design, transport, staging and photo reportage, all managed by Exhibit Around.

- Projects and portfolios can go with a brief description or presentation. Exhibit Around however reserves the right to edit or not to publish it. The author’s name will always be present.
