A raw, nocturnal black-and-white journey through Poland that oscillates between memory and present. Domenicali sets out to trace the scars of the twentieth century—occupation, Shoah, Soviet rule—but is captured instead by the solemnity of landscapes, the warmth of encounters, and the quiet interiors of towns and villages. The work moves from the “green island/green zone” of a rapidly transformed country to intimate portraits and wintry scenes, letting contradictions and tenderness coexist. Photographs were taken during the winters of 2008 and 2023; the book opens with Antonio Tabucchi’s reflection on places we carry within us, and includes an introduction by Denis Curti.
