New free photography open call for photographers

The Project

With Overshoot, DOTLOGIC works alongside Exhibit Around in raising awareness of climate change. Exhibit Around, through the project La Forma del Calore within RE-ACTIVE (Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027), focuses on heatwaves in Friuli Venezia Giulia: with the scientific support of DEAMS, University of Trieste, the data collected will be turned into visualisations and shown at Magazzino 26 during Trieste Photo Days 2026.

DOTLOGIC takes this commitment beyond regional borders: Overshoot opens to photographers worldwide, with its own selection and its own exhibition, in the same space that the two organisations will share.

The Theme

The title refers to the crossing of the 1.5°C threshold of global average temperature rise above pre-industrial levels, the limit that the 2015 international climate agreement committed to pursuing. In 2024, for the first time, a full year passed that threshold. The Paris goal is measured as an average over decades, but that first year indicates that we have in all likelihood already entered the twenty-year period whose average will reach it: this is the beginning of what is known in scientific terms as an “overshoot”. Every fraction of a degree beyond that limit brings consequences that are more severe and less reversible for ecosystems and communities worldwide.

We are looking for photographs of climate change, from the most personal perspective to the shared one: what happens to places, communities and habits when climatic balances break down. The exhibition will bring these different perspectives together into a collective account. The theme can be approached through the changing landscape, from coasts to mountains, from farmland to cities; but also through people: those who work, adapt or resist in the face of its effects, and the everyday gestures that the climate transforms.

Who is it for?

Photographers worldwide interested in submitting single photographs on the theme of climate change, in its various forms: changing landscapes, communities adapting or resisting, the relationship between scientific data and lived experience.

Selected photographers will have the opportunity to exhibit at Magazzino 26 alongside the work of Mark Power and Christopher Morris, the international guest artists of Trieste Photo Days 2026, and to be included in the project catalogue. All of this within the setting of Trieste Photo Days 2026, with photographers and audiences from all over the world.

The photos

Each author may approach the theme of climate change through the photographic genre they feel closest to: reportage, portrait, landscape, documentary photography, street photography, creative photography or fine art. Only single photographs are admitted.

Photographs may explore climate change in all its forms: landscapes in transformation, from coasts to mountains to cities; the people and communities who adapt or resist its effects; the everyday gestures that a changing climate transforms; as well as more conceptual readings on the distance between what the numbers say and what bodies feel.
