24HOURS of Photography – Gorizia and Nova Gorica

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th April 2024. The 24HOURS are open to all. Interested photographers will be able to participate freely, equipped with their own photographic equipment and independent in their travels.

We will meet in Goriza and Nova Gorica for the fifth and final photographic walk, an entire weekend carried out as part of the PixAround FVG 2024 activities, for GO! 2025.

The release is also part of the multidisciplinary and action-research project The Double City, which focuses on communities divided by a border, in particular on cities that live next to each other and that in the past (geographically, historically and/or politically) were a single city, but are now divided between two countries. PROGRAM SATURDAY 8th JUNE IN GORIZIA, from 9.30 to 13.00

9.30 am – Gorizia Train Station Open in maps

From the station to the border, a walk with Andrea Bellavite author of the guide Gorizia-Nova Gorica, a unique city (INFO).

Andrea Bellavite, theologian, essayist and journalist, directed the weekly Voce Isontina for 8 years. He is director of the periodical Nuove Strade / Nove Poti and of the magazine Alpinando. Bellavite will take us on a walk through the city of Gorizia, a multi-ethnic city, with a charm from across the centuries and communities that have lived and loved here.

Starting from the Gorizia railway station, Andrea Bellavite will accompany us along a route that will touch: Rimembranza Park, Corso Italia, Methodist Evangelical Church, the Verdi Theatre, Gorizia Town Hall, Via Barzellini Prison, Piazza Sant’Antonio, Gorizia Castle, Cathedral, via Rastello, Travnik, via Ascoli and San Giovanni (Synagogue), Palazzo Attems, via San Gabriele, Carinarnica.

PROGRAM SUNDAY 9th JUNE IN NOVA GORICA, from 9.30 to 13.00

The modern city, walk with expert tour guide Evelin Bizjak.

9.30 pm – Appointment at the Edvard Rusjan Monument Open in maps
Suggested parking (parking is free on weekends)

Since its foundation, the city has been fatally linked to the border. After all, it was the redrawn border after World War II that gave birth to the city.

We start from the modernist monument dedicated to Edvard Rusjan and then travel through the history of this young city.We will see the development of the city, the first blocks of what the locals call “Russian blocks”, the “Magistrala” as the main street of Nova Gorica was originally called, and the route will take us to the common square of Gorizia and Nova Gorica , which, like everything in this conurbation, has two names.

The Double City is created as part of the activities of GO! 2025, with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region – Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia and the partnerships with Društvo humanistov Goriške (DHG)InArch-Triveneto and the cultural association dotART.

The project also makes use of the consultancy of:

  • the architect Lucia Krasovec-Lucas, President of INARCH – National Institute of Architecture Triveneto Section and Founder of AIDIA – Italian Association of Women Architects and Engineers – Trieste Section;
  • Massimo Siragusa, photographer winner of 4 World Press Photo Awards and 3 Sony Awards, and author of over 15 books, who with his works has told the identity of many of the most prestigious international companies
  • Tanel Rander, well-known photographer and Estonian curator where I have been working since 2010 is focused on Eastern European identity and by Vincenzo Labellarte photographer and artistic consultant of Trieste Photo Days.
