Fotografia in Sinfonia. Music and Image in a Multisensory Installation

19 December 2025

The cultural associations dotART and Exhibit Around APS, in collaboration with the Department of Composition and New Technologies of the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory of Trieste, launch an Open Musical Call for Fotografia in Sinfonia. Supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the project brings music and photography into dialogue through a creative and contemporary approach.

The initiative is addressed to students and graduates of the Tartini Conservatory and involves the creation of original musical compositions designed to accompany three photographic pathways within a multisensory exhibition at Magazzino 26, as part of the 13th edition of Trieste Photo Days, taking place from 23 to 25 October 2026.

The selected compositions will accompany the images as a soundscape capable of engaging, surprising, and moving the audience, adding new depth to the works on display. A jury composed of lecturers and professionals from the field will select the pieces that are best able to establish an authentic dialogue with the photographic exhibitions.

Participants are invited to compose a sound polyphony (minimum duration 8 minutes) integrating three different musical tempi, conceived as emotional and narrative trajectories:

  • Adagio (40–76 bpm) – from minimalist photography to architecture
  • Andante (76–108 bpm) – from street photography to travel photography
  • Allegro (108–168 bpm) – from sports photography to chaotic urban geometries

Fotografia in Sinfonia welcomes a wide range of compositional practices, including electronic music, instrumental composition (with or without technologies), jazz, and hybrid forms. Participation is open to individuals or groups, encouraging dialogue between different approaches, methodologies, and sensibilities.

The selected compositions will be integrated into the exhibition design as an active part of the curatorial path, contributing to the creation of a multisensory installation in which sound and image influence one another. A €1,000 prize will be awarded to the composition selected as the best work.
