Registrations are open for the new free open call for photographers dedicated to the world of sport and all its aspects.

PLAY! – Let the Game Begin! starts the homonym photo project which will consist of a great photographic exhibition, an original volume and a large overall video interview with the selected authors.

The open call is an open invitation to all photographers in the world, amateurs and professionals, to nominate their best shots. Photographers will be able to submit both single photos and portfolios to the selections.

PLAY! aims to explore the relationship between mankind and sport, together with its related activities: sporting events, competitions and matches, its effects on society, aggregation moments and in general all those aspects that make the immense world of Sport so unique.
The challenge posed to photographers is to immortalize the true essence of the sporting universe in the photos they submit, giving them the opportunity to narrate it through the lenses.

The project also features a special section dedicated to high-level sports photography and shots of great professional athletes.
The special issue will be produced as part of the exclusive editorial project of Exhibit Around Mythography, the series of photographic volumes which themes are inspired by the gods of the Greek-Latin Pantheon.
The PLAY! special version is inspired by Mercury, divinity of athletics and sport, from which it also takes the title “Mercury: a Mythography Special Issue”.

Submissions are open from yesterday, Wednesday 20 December at 12:00 until Sunday 25 February 2024 at 23:59 (11:00 P.M) Italian time.

The open call, other than starting a great new photographic project, is a real photography contest with many prizes up for grabs including a free stay for 2 people in Trieste to attend the international photography festival Trieste Photo Days live.

The photographic project PLAY! – Let the Game Begin! in fact it will be enhanced by the international environment and the media coverage of the festival which will host the large photographic exhibition and the presentation of the book.
The award ceremony for the best author will take place on the festival stage, in the presence of great international photographers invited as guests of honour. In past editions Trieste Photo Days has been honored with the participation of artists of the caliber of Alec Soth, Kadir van Lohuizen, Susan Meiselas, Nino Migliori and many others.

PLAY! – Let the Game Begin! follows the success of acclaimed Exhibit Around tribute projects, in which hundreds of photographers from five continents participate every year. After the projects with Martin Parr (Short Street Stories, 2019), Alex Webb (Chromantic, 2020), Tatsuo Suzuki and VoidTokyo collective (Tales of the Unwritten, 2021), the Magnum photographer Susan Meiselas (WOW – Worlds of Women, 2022), Kadir van Lohuizen from NOOR Images (71% – The State of Water, 2023), the 2024 will be dedicated to Sports.
