A new photographic project is coming: “Vajont Photo Days: 1963 – 2023”

Photography open call dedicated to Vajont disaster

To commemorate the Vajont Dam disaster, the cultural association dotART, in collaboration with and Exhibit Around APS, promotes the Vajont Photo Days project.

The project involves several disciplines to offer citizens, young people, and Institutions the chance to “don’t forget” the tragedy in all its human, social, and environmental drama and to commemorate the human casualties. It will help to reflect on the impact and the risks of some macro-interventions on the environment and its balance.

Vajont Photo Days project aims to offer a broader vision, moving from memory, through data analysis for disaster risk assessment, to the transformations of the territory due to the impact of large-scale works and tragedies such as that of Vajont.

The multidisciplinary project will be a dialogue between photography, historical memory, dissemination, enhancement of the territory, scientific research, and consists of:

The project will consist of:

  • Open Call for all photographers, professionals and amateurs
    from May 8th to June 4th 2023
  • 2 days of photography in the areas of the Vajont tragedy, realized as part of the project PixAround FVG with the format of the 24H of Photography. During the weekend a photography workshop with Pierpaolo Mittica will take place
    Saturday, 20th and Sunday, 21st May 2023
  • audiovisual documentary
  • exhibition with the best photographs taken during the photographic weekend, but also collected through the open call, which will dialogue with archive images
  • publication
  • presentation event both at Trieste Photo Days – International Festival of Urban Photography, 10th Edition (27-29 October 2023) and Photo Days Tour 2023.

The project is realized thanks to the support of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region and the Partnership with CRAF – Centro Ricerca e Archiviazione della Fotografia/Photography Research and Archiving Centre, DEAMS – Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics and Statistics “B. de Finetti” of the University of Trieste, and the Regional Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites.
